The best part of this DIY plant stand is I made it  from scraps.  I was inspired by this plant stand I purchased at a farmer’s market for $15.00. It’s the first thing I ever bought at a local, open air  market in Littleton  and I love it.   And, I could use several around the house to showcase my ever expanding collection of {live} plants.

Here is my version. I had 2 pieces of culled wood from Home Depot for 50 cents each. I used my table saw to cut the pieces. I attempted to use a router to add some detail, but it was my first attempt and let’s just say it did not end well.

I think I need more practice!  And, a table! ( Uh, you think, Laura)?

So I ditched the router and stuck to the basics. I started with the base of the stand and stacked and nailed two squares together for added height and a little dimension.

Then I used my table saw to cut the square of scrap wood for the top of the stand to keep it  in proportion to the base.

Sidenote:  If you have  not found the bin of “culled” wood at Home Depot, go find it.  ”My Home Depot” keeps it in the back next to the industrial table saw.  All of the culled wood pieces are marked in red and are 50 cents!  I have found some great scraps!

Here’s the finished plant stand/post. This was seriously a 15 minutes project.  Seriously.

I added a coat of primer and  a few coats of a shade of gray from the “oops” paint at Home Depot( 50 cents):

Here is the completed project for under $2.00. Now, I just need a plant!
