Cherry or Blueberry Crumble … Grab a Spoon

Hi all~

One of my favorite summer desserts is a cherry crumble. One of my best friends made this YEARS ago for a 4th of July party.  Let’s just say I inhaled this over the  course of the party… one tablespoon at a time.

Here is the recipe:

Cherry Crumble
Recipe type: Dessert
Yummy summer dessert! The cherry and blueberries are perfect for a 4th of July treat!
  • CRUST:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 16 oz cream cheese
  • 1½ cups sugar *** the dessert is very sweet- you could try reducing sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • Beat these 3 ingredients and fold in 8-9 oz cool whip
  1. CRUST:
  2. Mix and spread ⅔rds of crust into an UNGREASED 9 X 13 pan, spread the remainder in a smaller pan, press firmly. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.
  4. Spread ½ of filling over crust of 9x13 pan. Cover with can of cherry filling (and/or blueberry filling), spread rest of filling carefully on top of fruit. Use crust from smaller pan to crumble on top of filling Refrigerate for at least an hour to set.

Cereal- It’s not just for breakfast anymore!

cereal alternatives

Do you ever just do random online searches?  I have my favorite sites that I randomly search!   One of my favorites is Better Homes & Garden so when I stumbled on alternative uses for cereal it spoke to me!  See photo below.  This is a photo of  the boxes of cereal I had on the counter during  our DIY pantry makeover… I think I might have a problem!  No, you are not seeing double.. I tend to double up ( I think it stems from my childhood and the horrible morning  discovery  that the “good cereal” was all gone!

#1: Decorate a Cake

Use nut grain cereal for a pie crust?  I can’t believe I never thought of this one!

#3: Process into Crumbs for a Crust

Ice cream topping. I have done this with Rice Krispies  (and chocolate syrup)::

#4: Top Ice Cream

Coating for chicken or fish.  I have done this before with the “bottom of the box” cereal strays. My kids love it! And, I sneak in a little ground flax seed (shhh…..)!

#5: Coat Chicken Before Oven-Frying
