Interior Front Door: From Stain to White Paint!

I did it!  A few months  Six months ago I posted my entry way dilemma. That post with pictures is HERE. But here is the abbreviated version and the before photos if you don’t want to get side tracked!  Stained door adjacent to white interior door.  All of our interior doors are painted white. My son would call this “hashtag suburban mom probs.”  I call it maddening!

I sat on this until this summer.  Because once you go paint, it’s a P.I.T.A. to go back to stain.  Message me if you need the acronym explained.   So the weekend my {first} husband drove our daughter back to college for a summer internship,  I decided to start with the side windows. I started to freak out after I finished 1/2 of one side.  But, I kept going until I got to this stage. The hyperventilating and the swear words continued until I finished both  side panes.   And, then I decided to wait for the boys’ reactions. I got 4 thumbs up and a fist bump by the end of the weekend!  I will caution you that it took me at least a day for me to love it (the stain door in the middle  was a distraction).

And here is the finished all white interior side of the front door!  I used Behr Pure-White high gloss (between paws,  hand prints, backpacks,  lax gear and tennis bags I know it will take a beating).

Easy Idea on Finding {paint} Inspiration for a Child’s Bedroom

In the evolution of my boys’ bedroom, I learned a quick(er) path to finding a paint color!  If  you and your child  are getting stuck in the negotiations of paint colors for his/her room look to his/her interests to find your color board.  I went with all things tennis related.

Thank you Adidas, Wilson, Head and Nike for keeping the peace!  One of my boy’s loves blue: royal blue, ocean blue.. anything but navy!  Even the courts are a source of inspiration.  Maybe your child’s favorites are a pool, field, gym mat, or a favorite book cover.

This helps with accessories too!  I was inspired by these orange Nike court shoes for my son’s accessories                         (without the grass stains):

So…. I picked a neutral shade of gray for the walls.

Hmmm… out of I don’t know 50 shades of gray (ba dump dum). I went with Behr Classic Silver Home Depot. Ironically when I googled an image for this paint color I found my own photo!

Here are the main colors and the accessories.

The color palette for the accessories came from my son’s new comforter.  But the reason, we both liked these colors is that all of these colors are popular in the Nike and Adidas apparel that he wears for tennis  all.the.time.

So if you are struggling with 50 shades of any color for your child’s  room… look to what they like to do for color inspiration.
