In love with this thrifty wreath idea…

I love wreaths, but I don’t like the expense that adds up with every season or holiday. And, when one loves one wreath, she/he usually wants to add more to the house.

Here is my latest wreath for our master bedroom. This is obviously not a highly visible room so thrifty decor is the way to add a little swag (are we still allowed to say swag)?  I took a grapevine roll from Hobby Lobby and just eyeballed the size I wanted.  I have made multiple wreaths with just one roll of grapevine!

It’s more flexible, lighter and easy to switch it up.

I had so much fun making one over the holidays that I created a new one for spring. I added a little green ivy garland and just draped it around (that’s my technical description).

Coffee Filters.. not just for coffee grounds… thanks Dad

coffe filters

My dad sent me these suggestions.  I don’t read all of my dad’s “forwarded emails”  but this one caught my attention.  To read more about my relationship with my dad, read my Downton Abbey post  HERE.  It’s pretty cute!

COFFEE FILTERS

Who knew?  And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree!

coffe filters

1.   Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave.

2.   Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome… Coffee filters are lint-free so they’ll leave windows sparkling.

3.   Protect china by separating with a coffee filter between each dish.

4.   Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

5.   Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

6.   Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
7.   Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke a hole as needed in a coffee filter.
8.   Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, french fries, chicken fingers, etc on them.. It soaks out all the grease.
9.   Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.                                             10.
Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.                                                                          11. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.

12.  Use to hold dry ingredients when baking or cutting fruit or veggies. Saves on washing extra bowls.

13. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.
14. Use them to sprout seeds. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a zip-lock plastic bag until they sprout.
15.  Use coffee filters as a snack bowl  for popcorn, chips, etc.
